Chatham Beach Engagement Session
July 29, 2011Sarah & James ~ Engagement Portraits Chatham
July 26, 2011Caitlin & Dylan have dated for several years.
It was my first time meeting Dylan at the engagement session and I knew right away how lucky I was to get to work with such an awesome couple!
We were debating whether to delay the session as they were calling for severe storms and tornadoes but with a watchful eye on the sky, I told them we needed to give it a go. From the connection I was feeling between Caitlin and Dylan, the excitement in the sky, and the view around Caitlin’s family farm, it was perfect, and I was excited!
We ended the session when the rain started and the wind whipped up, with plans to meet again and finish the session a few days later. I drove home with a huge grin on my face. The kind of grin that makes your cheeks hurt. I knew there was magic on my camera, I knew I had captured Caitlin + Dylan, I knew we didn’t really need another session.
When I called to let them know that their images were ready I received the best compliment EVER! Caitlin said, they both had a great time at the engagement session. Once home Dylan commented “Julie should be a couple’s counsellor”. These two had not had problems that night, there was no arguing or anything. They just totally enjoyed the adventure of our engagement session, they enjoyed the time together, they enjoyed each other as a couple, …..without all the craziness everyday life brings.
This brought me goosebumps and totally warmed my heart. That is what I strive for Julie Rhodes Photography to be. We want to capture the REAL you. All the little bits and pieces that make you, you. The two of you as a couple and then as you grow into a family. We want to help you preserve your memories, and leave your mark. Let everyone in the years to come pick up an image of you and feel the love you share, feel like they’ve met you.
Congratulations Caitlin and Dylan! I am so very excited to capture even more magic on your wedding day!

November 15, 2010I am so lucky to be the photographer choosen to capture Lauren & Nic’s wedding next year!
They were so excited to have their engagement session done, they decided to have their session done this fall, rather than wait for spring!
Nic and Lauren compliment each other very well. When they look at each other their eyes sparkle. They smile constantly and are very good at making each other laugh.
It was an incredible night and I was totally in love with the yummy golden sunlight.
(psst….and the awesome sunset!)
Good times……Good times……..Cheers…. to many more!
North Bay Area Engagement Session ~ Julie Rhodes Photography
September 7, 2010I was so excited to meet Becky & Shawn in Northern Ontario for their engagement session. It is absolutely beautiful up there, one of their (and my) favourite locations. I was visiting my family and had spotted a few incredible locations. Shawn & Becky have family up that way and Shawn had grown up spending family vacations right across the lake. It was totally perfect!
I had spotted this beautiful field of flowers when we were driving around with my dad and the girls (looking for animals and checking for bears at the dump), I couldn’t wait to get Shawn & Becky in this field. We arrived at the beautiful field of flowers, shot a few pics and headed to our vehicles to go to the next spot. When I got in my van, turned it on, looked out the windshield and there in the field was a bear, it was beautiful (beautiful because I was in my van, lol) standing on it’s hind legs right up high, out in our field of flowers …… before I could pick my camera back up, the bear had dropped to all fours, it was hidden by the tall flowers and continue on it’s way……I do wonder where the bear was when we pulled up to the field.
Ok see how tall the flowers are! Great for hidding bears, lol…..
I met up with Jolene & Aaron on the outskirts of London. They wanted some images by the train tracks. Their e session was a ton of fun, and we explored the outside of London. I love driving around and pulling over whenever we see something of interest!
I am so excited to capture these two on their wedding day in October!
Chatham Engagement Session ~
July 8, 2010Wedding season is in full swing, which also means engagement sessions are rolling in!
Alli and Brandon have been full of unique ideas since the very first time I met with them! It was my goal to surprise them with their engagement session locations.
These two are super easy to photograph. I can’t wait ’til their wedding!
Grand Bend Engagement Shoot
June 21, 2010Jeff & Kate are one of the sweetest couples I have met. They are so comfortable with each other, relaxed and totally enjoyed every moment spent together. They make such a gorgeous couple, I can’t wait for their golf course wedding in September!
We started the engagement session at Oakwood Resort and Golf Club and then headed downtown Grand bend. The skies looked like they may pour on us at any second, the wind picked up and it must of dropped 20 degrees (ok not 20, but it was cold and I forgot a sweater!) but Jeff & Kate never stopped smiling and were total naturals in front of the camera.
For Denise & Jer’s engagement shoot they wanted to use their hometown, Amherstburg, their school, the docks, just to capture them in surroundings that tell their story!
Denise & Jer have been sweetheart’s since high school, they are so stinkin’ cute together. Lovin’ football and spending time together!
I had great time, touring around Amherstburg, Jer did a great job, showing me the sights! It is very beautiful, the navy yard, fountains, old streets. I love it!
I am soo excited to be the one capturing Denise & Jer’s wedding day in September!
Snow & a red couch – London Engagement ~ Chatham Photographer
February 19, 2010I met Drew & Heather in Punta Canta. I was there for Joe & Natasha’s wedding. You can see their awesome destination wedding here. Heather had said to me “Julie, I am calling you when I get engaged!” I thought she was teasing and just being nice. I saw Drew had proposed on Facebook, that handy social networking tool, along with another couple from the destination wedding trip. (this is very exciting, there totally must of been something in the rum!) Congratulations messages were flying around their facebook pages. The next morning, at 7:30 am my phone rings and it is Heather. “Good morning Julie, I told you I would call you!”.
I was totally pumped ~ ahh I have also forgot to mention not only is this crowd a ton of fun, friendly and so welcoming, the wedding is also in Newfoundland! Woo hoo.
Heather starts telling me wedding details, and unfortunately I am booked for her day.
(Please insert the saddest face imaginable here.)
I was so very excited when they asked me to do their engagement pictures. Drew’s family owns a tree farm and they wanted snow. I had a crazy vision that included a red couch. So the search for the red couch began.
I searched and searched and searched.
no luck.
Well actually I did find one but there was no way it was fitting in my van, and I had no intensions on rental a cube van for the day!
I called Drew & Heather the day before the session to let them in on what I had planned and that I had been looking for a red couch. I asked if they knew anyone with an old love seat, at this time any colour but floral would do. They didn’t think so. But later that night I got “the” call, they had found a red couch. They were not sure if it was what I was looking for but they had found one.
I went to bed that night dreaming of the couch, not knowing what it looked liked. It could of been all wrong, too fluffy, too big or too little.
Guess what….. it was totally perfect!
